We here at UTM are interviewing candidates for two tenure track posts. Just a year ago, it was me sitting in that chair, me sleeping in a strange bed, me cinching up the necktie before a day of nonstop talking. I feel relief at being on the other side of that line, and though I know I worked hard for the degree, I also feel quite humble that I have this position. I know that it's not a matter of being smarter or better--I've known too many fine people in graduate school to think that this is a mark of personal virtue.
