I can only watch bits of this show at a time, and it's not one we catch all the time, but I've never seen a show more toe-curlingly agonizing. And here's the kicker: it's so true! See if you can watch without wanting to crawl into a hole.
Steve Carell=genius.

Our New Sundays
W and I are plunging deep into the ol' baptist pond today. We're debuting in the choir, and we're attending our sunday school class for the first time. I imagine another recurring topic in this space will be our churchly adventures. I know that the Buzzard and Ms. Hambone can relate. Stay tuned for updates!

What a difference a year makes
We here at UTM are interviewing candidates for two tenure track posts. Just a year ago, it was me sitting in that chair, me sleeping in a strange bed, me cinching up the necktie before a day of nonstop talking. I feel relief at being on the other side of that line, and though I know I worked hard for the degree, I also feel quite humble that I have this position. I know that it's not a matter of being smarter or better--I've known too many fine people in graduate school to think that this is a mark of personal virtue.
That last comment will probably become a recurring theme in this space. Well, not this space.

MMMMMM
Cherry Limeade from Sonic. One of the best things about living in Martin is that we have one just down the street, so when the mood strikes, blammo.

Ow.
Went to the weightroom yesterday for the first time in about a year. I can barely lift my arms. Tomorrow, standing up and navigating stairs will be the big challenge. Yay fitness.

S. A. D.
Argh. Rain, rain, rain. On a Monday, too. I'll be doing well to stay awake through my classes. And I'm the teacher!

Reading
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe--for a seminar I'm leading for the honors program here at UTM.
Don Quixote--something I've always wanted to read, because it's so important for the period I study. Plus, I'm a sucker for monstrous books (Moby Dick, One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Faerie Queene, and so on).
